Then carefully read the fund criteria set below.

We would also advise contacting the grants team to discuss your project ideas before applying, particularly as this fund is quite limited in terms of the amount of money available to distribute per year.

Brief Description

This funding stream is administered by the Foundation on behalf of the National Fair Share program and was devised to tackle issues within the Sinfin & Austin wards of Derby City creating a stronger community and to improve opportunities for residents. The fund consists of three main strands:

More Information

Community groups can apply to each of the three strands independently but cannot access two grants from the same strand at any one time.  E.g. Group A can be awarded from the children & young people pot & the training & education pot but cannot apply for a second grant from the training & education strand until the first project is complete.

Community & Voluntary Group Support

Within this strand grants will be awarded to community groups looking to improve their current services and to become more self-sufficient.  This could include physical improvements to community owned buildings such as creating better access. Increasing publicity and awareness about projects to attract more users and potentially linked income. It may also include extending a service to an extra night per week or maybe offering a greater range of activities. There is also scope for groups to request funding for help with ongoing running costs if the group have a plan for how to survive longer term – such as fundraising, further grant applications etc.

Children & Young People

This strand is all about increasing the number and quality of projects and activities for younger people in the Sinfin & Austin wards. Activities must take place outside of the school day such as evenings, weekends and holiday periods.  There will be a slight preference to groups providing opportunities to the 8 – 11 age range. We will be looking for well constructed ideas that have acted on evidence of what children and young people actually want in the area. If the project can show how it will run longer term then this will also be given priority.

Training & Education

This portion of the funding stream has been created to increase the level of training opportunities within the Sinfin and Austin wards. We are hoping to attract groups who want to provide a diverse range of training courses at local venues. Courses could be vocational, hands-on work experience type placements, short bite size taster courses or include basic numeracy, literacy skills.  They may also be opportunities to fund courses aimed at getting people back into work such as C.V. writing, interview techniques etc.  Groups that have shown an ability to evidence need, avoid duplication and bring in appropriate tutors / trainers will be given priority.
