Fund Name: Grassroots Grants

Before progressing with an application for this fund it is important to read the booklet:
Success - How to apply to Derbyshire Community Foundation
(click above to open as PDF file in new window).

Then carefully read the fund criteria set below.

We would also advise contacting the grants team to discuss your project ideas before applying.

Brief Description
This fund supports a broad range of community and voluntary groups with a variety of different costs. As with all of the Foundation’s funds, the overarching purpose of each grant we make is to enhance the quality of life for people living in Derbyshire communities and to tackle disadvantages and inequalities faced by people living in the county and city today.

More Information:
As described above, the fund’s aim is to support community life and tackle disadvantage.  Please read the rest of the criteria carefully to see if your group will be able to apply to this funding stream.

To apply your group must have a turnover (annual income) of below £30,000.
Your group must also have been running for over 12 months.

Type of Project costs funded:

  • Capital (any items of equipment)
  • Revenue (any non-equipment costs) including ongoing running costs for a project or group
  • One off events and one-off projects

Priorities
There are no specific priorities linked to this fund

Area:
Derby City and Derbyshire wide.

Amount:
Groups can apply for a minimum of £250 and a maximum of £5,000.

Please note that Grassroots Grants will be operating in this current format for just less than 3 years (September 2008 – March 2011). During this period your group can only have a total of £5,000.  Some examples of how this may work follow:

  • You may apply for £5,000 in year 1 for a project that will be completed in 12 months. In this case you would not be able to apply to the Grassroots grants fund again. You would of course be able to access other grant streams ran by the Foundation.
  • Your group could apply for £2,000 in yr 1 and after a successful 12 month grant return to apply for a further £2,000 in yr 2, in yr 3 you would still be able to return but only for £1,000. Each application will be assessed on its own merit and a successful grant application does not guarantee Grass Roots grant funding in subsequent years.

Closing Dates:
There are no fixed closing dates. However, please note that this is a three year programme, which will end in December 2010.

Examples of grants made:
Examples of successful projects will be placed here soon.
Examples of what we ‘may’ fund include

    • Costs to put on a workshop or training event
    • Funds to purchase furniture or I.C.T. equipment
    • Staff costs for a specific post
    • Contribution to rent or transport costs
