Brief Description:
This fund has been set up to support new and existing community activity in the Abbey ward of Derby City. The funds main purpose is to improve the quality of life for residents in this area.
More Information:
As described above the Tom Carey fund will offer financial assistance to community groups that are addressing the needs of their local community or the needs of a specific group of people within the area. They should show that they are engaging in community life and encouraging people within the Abbey ward to mix and support each other. Consideration will also be given to projects within Abbey’s neighbouring wards, namely Aboretum, Normanton, Blagreaves, Littleover, Mackworth and Darley, particularly if they can demonstrate provision of services and facilities to Abbey residents.
Type of Project costs funded:
- Capital (any items of equipment) including refurbishment / building work
- Revenue (any non-equipment costs) including ongoing running costs for a project or group
- One off events and one-off projects
Priorities:
Preference will always be given to community activity benefiting Abbey ward residents.

Amount:
The maximum grant is currently £10,000 although preference will be given to applications of up to £5,000.
Closing Dates:
There are no fixed closing dates. The decision making panel meet four times per year.
Examples of grants made:
£5,000 for refurbishment of a central community space
£6,000 for the set up of a credit union branch in the ward to increase debt advice, encourage saving and offer financial / debt solutions to residents.
